Tea is one beverage that has been around for centuries. Man has been brewing different concoctions of this significant plant for both healing and flavor purposes. Tea comes in different forms such as white tea, yellow tea, green tea and black tea; just to mention a few. The names may be different but all tea is obtained from a plant known as Camellia sinensis. The distinction in color and flavor is derived from the different processing methods applied after harvesting.

Oolong Tea

Findings of a study done on animals show that Oolong tea contains properties that activate enzymes that break down body fats known as triglycerides. Women who take this type of tea burn more calories as compared to those who only take water. Oolong also contains detoxification agent known as niacin and antioxidants that are known to prevent tooth decay.

Black tea

Even though it is considered to be the most highly caffeinated of all tea, research has it that consuming more than 2 cups of black tea a day can reduce your chances of suffering from stroke by 21 percent. This type of tea is also packed with antioxidants known to reduce cholesterol levels.

Chamomile tea

Obtained from the flowers of the chamomile plant, chamomile tea boasts of many health benefits. It contains antioxidants that may contribute to stunting the growth of cancerous cells. It is also helpful in preventing some of the side effects associated with diabetes such as kidney damage, poor vision and nerve damage.

White tea

Just like green tea, white tea also contains antioxidants known as catechins which help in preventing cancer and heart diseases. Research from the American Cancer Society states that it can also reduce breast cancer recurrences.

Lemon ginger tea

Studies have shown that drinking this type of tea can get rid of the bacteria connected to salmonella. Ginger is blessed with an active compound known as zingiber while lemon boasts of immune boosting ingredients such as limonene and pectin. This makes these two a power duo; more so when it comes to fighting bacterial infections.

Echinacea

Echinacea purpurea is a natural compound commonly used to fight diseases such as respiratory infections and the common cold. Consumption of this type of tea over a period of four months or more has been proven to fight infections.
